Remembering the Past.
The history of the Limelight Lodge is a tale of pioneering spirit. It began as a small bar in the early 1950s called the Ski and Spur. A few years later, featuring live music, it was renamed the Limelite. Glen Yarbrough, a folk singer at the time, loved coming to Aspen to perform so much that he bought the club. A few years later he formed the famed Limeliters trio. However, the more successful the trio became, the harder it was for Glen to manage the club. Facing bankruptcy, new owners stepped in. For the next 50 years, The Paas/Woolery family ran the small club, turning it into a ski lodge that eventually grew to include the Ski-Vu, Deep Powder Lodges and the Snowflake Inn.
For half a century, the corner of Monarch Street and Cooper Avenue has served as a well known hub for skiers and vacationers. Today, while many of the original ski lodges are gone, the Limelight Lodge has been reborn. Spacious and beautiful, contemporary in design, the heart and soul of the original Limelight remains.
